Why study at the Law School

The School of Law is a small, friendly and vibrant teaching unit. The team prides itself on its student-centred learning experience.

The School of Law has been commended by the Quality Assurance Agency who was impressed that our students were so quick to praise the quality of our teaching.

We endevour to stretch the student experience beyond simply the academic stage of training future lawyers. We also offer a rich and diverse learning experience that develops student potential. It equips the student for the modern commercial world as well as providing life-long skills.

All teaching, including seminars, is by the resident specialist, and not handed down to Teaching Assistants.

Staff are readily available to students and not lost in a maze of corridors and meetings, while there is extensive use of Net based communication for routine matters to assist teaching.

All staff have substantial teaching experience and while research is promoted, it is not seen as being in any way at the expense, either for individual lecturers or for the department, of teaching.

In terms of the university experience, it also means that you will get to know your Personal Tutor because you will be taught by him/her personally at some stage and will not just be a name on a list.

In addition to learning the law and the skills of analysis and argument, you will also be taught to think critically about the law.

There are several unique/very rare courses offered that are also very commercially valuable:

    E-commerce law
    Aviation law
    Public International Law
    The Practice of International Law
    Medical Law
